How to Choose the Right Kitchen Renovator in Sydney
Sydney has hundreds of kitchen renovation companies — and not all of them are equal. Here are the 7 things you must check before signing a contract.
- Check their NSW Builder's Licence. Verify on the NSW Fair Trading website (licence.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au). A licence is mandatory for any work over $5,000.
- Verify their insurance. Ask for a Certificate of Currency for Public Liability Insurance (minimum $10 million) and Home Building Compensation coverage.
- Visit a completed project. Any reputable renovator will offer this. If they won't let you see finished work and speak to a real client, walk away.
- Read Google and Houzz reviews. Look for consistent, detailed, recent reviews. A company with 50 reviews over 5 years is more reliable than one with 200 reviews in 6 months.
- Understand the contract. A proper renovation contract will include: fixed price, detailed specification, programme, payment schedule, and dispute resolution clause. If it's vague, it's a risk.
- Ask about project management. Will you have a single point of contact? Who coordinates the trades? How do you get daily updates? The best companies have dedicated project managers.
- Understand the warranty. What's covered? For how long? In writing? Industry standard is 7 years structural, 2 years defects. We offer 10 years on waterproofing.
